COURSE GOALS
- Understand what it means to look at autism as a psychomotor regulation disorder
- Understand the scientific and clinical evidence underpinning this paradigm
- Define sensory and communication accommodations under this paradigm and appropriate applications
- Understand the history, controversy and evidence, pro and con, surrounding facilitated communication as well as other pointing strategies
- Have a beginning competence level in the practical use of facilitated touch
- Have a historical knowledge of the larger community that looks at autism as a psychomotor regulation disorder and be able to identify appropriate resources for clients
- Understand how Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) and Sensory Integration (SI) therapies fit into this approach.
